This year our Fathers and Sons camp with nearly 70 campers was held at Tolmers, the highlights of which were raft building and the Mad Scientist wide game.

The Group also attended the Annual Remembrance Service at North Mymms and two Church Parades at the U.R.C. in Brookmans Park, regretably there was no St. Georges Day Parade this year.

We have welcomed Michael Carey and Tony Collis as Cub Leaders, and Chris McIver as an Assistant Scout Leader.

Beavers

We have had some enjoyable programmes, highlights of which were probably the Maytime Stroll and a "1 Hour" camp, they also made a visit to Santa at the Nene Valley Railway and an evening at Activity World in Hatfield. The colony remains full.

Cubs

The weekly meetings have been varied and well received.

Summer camp this year was held Chalfont Heights and offered our youngsters new experiences including Rifle Shooting, Archery, Off Road Cycling and an Assault Course.

Regrettably we had to close one of the Cub Packs at the end of July.

A successful Indoor Winter Camp was held at Tolmers. Other activities have included the trip to Santa as above, Ten Pin Bowling and Swimming.

They also finished runners up again at the District Five a side football competition and joined other cubs in Hatfield Carol singing. Several sleepovers were also held.

Scouts

The scouts have had many wide ranging weekly programmes during the year and these have included patrol trips to Go Karting, Aquasplash, Quasar and Bowling.

We have also held a Cycle Camp which visited Harmer Green, spent a weekend sailing on a 72 foot Ketch, helped in a conservation project, and went gliding again.

There were also several sleepovers, including one night spent in Hammocks at Harmer Green.

We won the Welwyn Garden City Night Hike and four teams entered the County Green Beret Trophy, with one team finishing 10th. Our Summer Camp was held near Wareham and included visits to the Tank Museum, a water park, Swanage and Osmington Bay Adventure Centre.

We also built rafts, camped overnight on an island, and went hiking.

Our thanks to Brian Browne (ASL from 1st Hatfield) who came along and helped. Our indoor winter camp was held at Belchamps, Southend where activities included climbing, caving, and an assault course.

Five Scouts took part in a successful Chief Scouts Challenge hike to Norfolk last August.

Two scouts attended the World Jamboree in Thailand.

Explorer Scouts

Around 15 of the older Scouts are in the process of joining the Explorer Unit which covers the Welwyn Hatfield area.

General

Our Fund raising has continued during the year and at Village Day, the Group Executive assisted by some parents ran our Tombola, raising £410 for group funds.

Our jumble sale in September raised £1610, and our American Square Dance which was held in January raised £375.

The scouts also raised over £700 bag packing at Sainsbury's prior to Christmas. This was primarily towards Andrew and Ben's trip. My annual report would not be complete without thanking all the leaders, helpers and members of the Group Executive for all their hard work during the year.

I would also like to thank the parents who have helped at meetings and particularly those who came and helped at the two cub camps and transported the scouts to their summer and winter camps.

Thank you.

Ian Lewington, GSL
