This year our Father and Sons camp with 67 campers was held at Phasels Wood near Kings Langley. Their weekend included climbing, archery, rifle shooting, potholing, pedal cars and the phado wide game.

They also cooked a meal over an open fire and over 100 people were entertained to lunch and another game at the end of the camp.

We have also seen the introduction of new uniforms to all sections, attended the annual remembrance service at North Mymms and two church parades at the URC in Brookmans Park.

The leaders and Group Exec held their fellowship dinner in January. We have also said goodbye to Andrew Dey and Dick Veal who moved away from Brookmans Park, and welcomed Robert Ward as our treasurer and Pat Lawrence to the committee. Michael Carey and Tony Collis have also applied for warrants as Assistant Cub Leaders.

Beavers

We have had some enjoyable programmes and also made a visit to 'Santa' at the Nene valley Railway and an evening at 'Activity World' in Hatfield.

We have managed to take in more Beavers to the colony and many have moved to Cubs.

Cubs

Although Foot and Mouth affected some of our meetings being held at Gobions last summer, our weekly meetings have been varied and well received.

Summer camp this year was held at Brentwood and offered our youngsters new experiences including Rifle Shooting, Archery, Raft Building, Canoeing and an assault course.

A successful indoor winter camp was held at Phasels Wood.

Other activities have included a trip to Legoland, 'Santa' as above, and Bayford Observatory.

They have also finished runners up at the District Six a side football competition again, but won the Volleyball competition, and took third place in the Handicraft.

We represented the district at the County Cyclo X competition and joined other cubs in Hatfield carol singing.

We had successful cycle ride along the Alban Way and a sleepover for older cubs was also held.

Scouts

The scouts have had many wide ranging weekly programmes during the year and these have included patrol trips to Quasar and Bowling.

We have also held a Survival Camp at Daneswood, a cycle camp which visited Harmer Green and Phasels Wood, cycled the Great North Way to Stevenage, helped in some conservation projects, taken part in the county cooking competition and taken 2nd place in our sections of the Welwyn Garden City night hike.

Some scouts also went sailing and gliding and there have been several sleepovers.

Three teams entered the County Green Beret Competition and one team won the trophy for the most activity points. Our Summer Camp attended by 28 scouts was at Broadstone Warren in Ashdown Forest where our activities included Off Road Cycling, Swimming, Pioneering, Hiking, Potholing and a trip to Chessington World of Adventures.

Some scouts also gained their Camp Cook badges.

Our winter camp this year was held at Chalfont Heights.

General

Our fund raising has continued during the year and at village day, the group executive assisted by some parents ran our Tombola and despite wet weather raised £410 for group funds.

Our jumble sale in September raised £1580 and our American Square Dance which was held in January raised £850.

My annual report would not be complete without thanking all the leaders, helpers and members of the group exec for all their hard work during the year.

Thank you particularly to James for keeping the troop and cub packs going and to Chris and Claire (members of the Quantum Venture Unit) for their continued support.

I would also like to thank the parents who have helped at meetings and particularly those who came and helped at the two cubs camps and transported the scouts to their summer camp.

Thank you.

Ian Lewington, GSL
