1st Brookmans Park Scout Group Since I wrote my last report which was in early spring all the group have taken part in many activities the highlights of which are here. My main concerns at present is that we still do not have enough leaders or even helpers and secondly that our hut is beginning to show its age. We have recently had to replace all the main fuse boards and the roof has begun to leak. Please keep supporting our activities and any offers of help would be welcome. Fathers and Sons Camp At the beginning of May our Fathers and Sons camp was held at 'Phasels' in Kings Langely. Their weekend included Potholing, Climbing, Archery, Rifle Shooting and Pedal Car racing as well as several wide games and other sporting games. They also cooked a meal over an open fire and some 70 people were entertained to lunch at the end of the camp. Beavers We welcome Suzie Lambert and Darren Grizzel to the leadership of our Beaver Colony. Hopefully we will now be able to build our numbers back up over the next few months. The Beavers have continued with their regular meetings and some of them went to 'Gilwell' for a Beaver Day and the colony also joined other Beavers from Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield for "Activity Day" at Harmer Green near Welwyn. They won the cup for gaining the most points during the day's activities. Cubs The two cub packs held most of their meetings at Gobions this summer. Some members of the pack visited Legoland near Windsor. Their camp their year was held at Brentwood in Essex and offered our youngsters new experiences including archery, rifle shooting, building a raft, canoeing and an assault course. This plus the usual games and cooking some of their own food meant we all had a good time especially as we were blessed with good weather. The cubs also competed in a District Handicraft competition and a five a side tournament, reaching the semi finals. They were also the first members of the group to go camping this year, in mid March when some of them took part in a new County Competition called 'Mission Impossible'. Scouts The scouts have also had many of their Summer meetings outdoors and held a weekend camp in July in which they took part in many different activities including building a shelter to sleep under. Luckily this was the second night of the camp as the previous night we had all been woken up by a heavy thunderstorm. The Scout troop has a winter camp in the next few weeks, for which we hope the weather will be slightly better! We are still looking for help with the troop particularly as out Scout Leader's employment often means he is unable to lead meetings, even if you cannot help regularly, but perhaps have a particular skill which you could enlighten the members of our troop - Please give me a call. Fund Raising Village Day - Our Group Executive assisted by some parents ran our Tombola. Thank you to all those residents who donated prizes for this, almost a complete sellout. Thank you also to those of you who donated Jumble and came to our Annual Jumble Sale. Our American Square Dance is again being arranged and will be on Saturday January 15th. Pete Skiffens is the caller and tickets should be available from Andrew Dey 01707- 654605 soon. Ian Lewington, Annual report
