Traps set for car thieves
Police 'trap cars' are being positioned in the area to catch car thieves. The unmarked cars look like any other cars, but belong to Herfordshire Constabulary. Detective Superintendent Bob Saunders, head of the Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Serious and Organised Crime Group, says the trap cars help police arrest thieves and gain intelligence.
"This campaign will up the stakes for thieves. We will display signs in many car parks and public places announcing the use of trap cars. Signs have been put up around the local area with the words, "Car Thieves Beware - break in and you could get more than you’ve bargained for." If anyone has any information about people involved in stealing from cars or buying the goods stolen from them they can contact police on 0845 33 00 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You can discuss this issue in this site's forum. 31 May 2009
