Circus comes to Brookmans Park
By Su Vaughan
Roll up! Roll up! Come and join in the fun at Brookmans Park Village ‘circus’ Day on Saturday 14th June. Promising an afternoon of fun for all the family, this year’s event will be opened by the mayor of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council at 1 pm in the arena. Calling all would-be clowns, organisers want as many clowns (or other circus acts) as possible to join the parade which sets off for Brookmans Park School from the Bradmore Green at 12.45 pm, led by HertStoppers Cheerleading Troupe and our new village day mascot. Line dancers, Sharon‘s Singing Club and circus demonstrations, including the walk of death, and juggling with fire, are some of the attractions taking place in the main arena. The live auction, back by popular demand following last year’s resounding success, gets underway at 3:00 pm. Prizes up for grabs include a wildlife zookeeper experience at Paradise Wildlife Park, hospitality passes to Tottenham Hotspur with Gary Mabbutt, MBE, passes to the Houses of Parliament plus dinner with local MP Grant Shapps, signed memorabilia from Arsenal Football Club, plus much more. Refreshments are available throughout the afternoon, including the ever popular BBQ and beer tent, candyfloss and ice cream stands, plus teas and cakes in the dining hall. A variety of stalls and sideshows include the Jungle Run, Rodeo Bull, Crazy Sand and Wacky Test tubes. Circus workshops, organised by Circus Malabaristas will also be running throughout the afternoon, offering children, and adults, the chance to learn to juggle, walk on stilts and unicycle amongst other things. Places are limited so come early to avoid disappointment. Various commercial stalls will be inside the school hall selling a variety of merchandise and products. Younger visitors can take part in a colouring competition and a craft room will keep little ones amused as they choose from six activities for £3. The grand raffle draw takes place at 4.30 pm with some fabulous prizes lined up including a flying lesson, a Fortnum & Mason hamper, a family day ticket to the London Dungeons, a family pass to Willows Farm, plus many more. Tickets are £1 and are available to purchase in advance of the day. Please contact Laura Noble (tel: 655619) for more information. The organising committee would like to thank the many charities and community groups that are supporting village day this year. Without their support, village day would not be the success that it continues to be. It’s become a key part of village life, providing an opportunity for residents to get together as part of a community. So come and join us to make this year’s village day a big success.” There are still sponsorship opportunities available. If you are interested in sponsoring a stall, please contact Michelle Karr (07708 636291) for further details.
