Tories hold WHDC and gain one seat
The Conservatives have held Welwyn Hatfield District Council (WHDC), gaining one seat from Labour.
The council is now made up of 27 Conservative councillors and 20 Labour councillors. There is one vacant seat. Seventeen of the 48 seats on the council were being contested. Stephen Boulton won the Brookmans Park and Little Heath ward for the Conservatives with 1,203 votes. Catherine Edwards of the Liberal Democrats came second with 211 votes. Margaret White, the Labour candidate, came third with 145 votes. In the last local eletion the Conservatives polled 1,289, the Liberal Democrats 217 and Labour 192. The turnout was 33.1%.
