BMX track renovations well underway

More than 20 volunteers, including Brookmans Park Scouts, two mums, one dad and a scout leader have made an impressive start on the first of two days renovating the local BMX track.

Despite light rain, the volunteers turned up at the site, behind the North Mymms Youth and Community Centre, on Friday morning and quickly began the transformation.

Humps were repaired and new hills built by hand. The team had appealed for the loan of a JCB digger but in the end had to resort to spades, shovels and forks.

Apart from repairing old features the team has extended the track into the woodland thanks to one mum armed with a strimmer who made short work of the thick nettles.

The route now includes some hill and river features as well as the previous humps.

The team will continue the work tomorrow, Saturday June 7, starting at noon and working through until 7pm. Volunteers are still welcome. If you can help, bring gloves, something to drink and waterproofs.

You can park in the car park just beyond the recycling bins. The BMX track is over the river, through the gate and up the wooden stairs on your left.
