Commended in national award ceremony
The Brookmans Park Newsletter has again been commended in the annual New Statesman New Media Awards. The site came second, out of 100 nominations for the Community and Information Award. It is the third time the site has been named runner up in the national awards. The winner was Slugger O'Toole, the weblog of research consultant Mick Fearly. The BBC had a site in the same category. The Community and Information Award was for "the individual or organisation that has best used new media to give an alternative, informative voice enhancing democratic debate". This site has now received three New Statesman New Media commendations since it was set up in 1998. In 2000 it won the Overall Merit Award outright for having "served the public interest in developing a democratically accountable civil society during the previous 12 months". Earlier this month the site played some part in helping Brookmans Park win the Hertfordshire Information Communication Technology Village of the Year 2004 Award. You can discuss the awards in a thread in this site's forum.
