Teenage youth club to re-open Report by Martin Ferdinando After nearly a year of closure, hopes have been raised in Brookmans Park and Welham Green that a youth club for teenagers will re-open at the North Mymms Youth and Community Centre. The club was closed last year when two of the part-time workers who had been at the centre for more than 20 years had changes in their full time careers making it impossible for them to continue. Now, Hertfordshire County Council's Youth Service has approved funding for two replacements and is advertising the posts of part-time youth workers in the hope that interest will be high allowing the club to re-open as soon as possible. The vacancies are for committed and enthusiastic people prepared to work with young people aged 11 to 19 years. An ability to relate to young people is essential and knowledge of issues relating to them is desirable. Based at the North Mymms Youth and Community Centre in Station Road, the posts are initially advertised for a fixed term until March 2001, working Monday evenings, 19.00 - 22.00 hours. For an informal chat, please contact Phil Yugoda on 01920 888173. For more details and an application form, please contact The Youth Service, East Area Office, HCC Trinity Centre, Room E13, Ware SG12 7PT. The job reference is 6764. Closing date is 28.7.00, with short-listing w/c 31.7.00 and interviews w/c 21.8.00. Former part time youth worker and now a member of the centre's management committee Martin Ferdinando said: I am very keen to see a re-launch of the Youth Club. The young people of both Welham Green and Brookmans Park have been without a club for a year now and talking to some of them recently, they clearly want to see it re-open. I'm sure they will give any new workers a lot of support and I would like to encourage people to apply. In addition to Phil, I would be very willing to speak to anyone interested in applying and maybe share some of my experiences of working with young people for over 20 years".
