Letter from the North Mymms District Green Belt Society to Hertfordshire County Council's Bridges Department regarding damage to Hawkshead Bridge To read the story of the recent cracking click here For more detailed pictures of the damage click here. To Bridges Dept Dear Sirs HAWKSHEAD LANE, NORTH MYMMS, HATFIELD In January or February this year the brickwork at the side of the humpback bridge at the western end of Hawkshead Lane was struck by a vehicle dislodging the parapet wall on its northern side. You made a very good repair of this damage. I am sorry to advise you that the same wall has been struck yet again, this time by a blue vehicle. The same side of the bridge now has a V shaped section of brickwork which has been dislodged, some 4 ft in length at ground level spreading to about 12 ft at the top of the parapet. There is also some movement of the brickwork causing a gap between the road surface and the wall. You can see photos of the damage on www.brookmans.com This brickwork is obviously very vulnerable to being hit - these two hits this year are just the latest ones. Is there nothing that can be done to protect the wall from being hit? We understand that Welwyn Hatfield Council are taking some traffic calming measures and you may care to contact them about this matter.
