Drink driving down for second year
Local drink driving figures for the festive season have fallen for the second year running, according to Hertfordshire Constabulary.
Police say the number of drivers in Hertfordshire who proved positive when breath tested fell from 11.7% last year to 10% this year. Officers stopped 1918 drivers with 192 proving to be over the limit. The tests ran from 6am on December 18 to 6am on January 2. During that time, extra resources were deployed stopping and testing drivers. Last year only 640 were tested. Chief Inspector Peter Brooks said the figures were both encouraging and disheartening. “It is disappointing that some drivers still act irresponsibly and put their own and other innocent road users’ lives at risk. I am confident a large majority of the public support our efforts to make Hertfordshire a safer place and I thank those motorists who choose not to drink. This public support is reflected in the number of negative tests provided,” he said. You can discuss this issue in this site’s forum.
