Festive drink drive results fall
Police have welcomed the drop in festive positive drink drive tests locally, but say there are still too many drivers willing to take a risk.
The numbers of drivers recording a positive result to a breath test fell throughout Hertfordshire. 176 drivers were tested following accidents. Of those 20 were positive. Last year there were 185 tests and 29 people tested positive. Police have given the latest figures a guarded welcome. "While it is encouraging to note that the number of people caught drink driving has decreased, it is still disheartening to note that there are still some people willing to take the risk. During the campaign there were some shocking examples of motorists getting behind the wheel while over the limit - risking their lives and the lives of other innocent drivers and pedestrians. It’s disappointing that some drivers still act irresponsibly and put their own and other innocent road user’s lives at risk." And there is a warning from the police that although the festive season campaign is over, officers will still be on the look out for drink drivers. "Hertfordshire Constabulary will not tolerate drink driving and we will continue to target drunk and dangerous drivers throughout the year as part of our contribution to making the county’s roads safe," the spokesperson added. 2003
