Hertfordshire County Council has published details of the proposed resurfacing of some A1000 junctions and the implications for local roads.

As reported on this site last week, signs, warning about road closures, are already appearing around the village.

Herts now says that during the work, which is scheduled to take place between February 1 and March 31, the following roads will be closed to all traffic, except for access for approximately five days.

This information is taken, word for word, from the Public Notice as it appeared on page 68 of the Jan 29 edition of the Welwyn Hatfield Times.

Any queries should be directed to the engineers concerned, Dave Bowgen and Steve Parsons on 01992-512741.

Bell Lane
The length of Bell Lane, from its southern junction with the A1000, south-westerly for a distance of approximately 20 metres. The alternative route for traffic will be as follows.

  • Northbound: Via Bell Lane.
  • Southbound: Via the A1000, George’s Wood Road, Brookmans Avenue, Bradmore Green, Station Road and Bulls Lane.
Georges Wood Road
The length of Georges Wood Road from its junction with the A1000 westerly, a distance of approximately 20 metres. The alternative route for traffic will be as follows.
  • Northbound: A1000 Great North Road, Dixons Hill Road, Station Road, Bradmore Green, Brookmans Avenue.
  • Southbound: Swanley Bar Lane, Hawkshead Lane, Blue Bridge Road, Georges Wood Road.
Upland Drive
The length of Upland Drive from its northern and southern junction with the A1000 westerly, a distance of approximately 20 metres.

The council notice also says that during the work vehicles will be temporarily prohibited from being driven at speeds exceeding 30 mph on that length of the A1000 from its junction with Westfield Road south westwards to its junction with Swanley Bar Lane, a distance of approximately 3,500 meters.

Anyone with any questions not covered above can contact Hertfordshire Highways on 01438-737320.
