History pictures online - Water End
The fourth chapter of a photographic history of North Mymms has now been reproduced on this site.
Chapter four deals with Water End and is part of the latest work produced by the North Mymms Local History Society including images dating back more than 130 years. The collection of pictures includes Abdale House, Warrengate Road, photographed in 1943. It is thought King Peter of Yugoslavia and some of his cabinet sheltered in Abdale House. It was also used by the Polish Air Force as a radio station. To view the pictures in the fourth chapter click here. The 62-page book, "North Mymms Pictures From the Past", is made up of 12 chapters and contains almost 120 previously unpublished images. The book was selling for just £2 but the entire print run of 1,000 copies has now been snapped up. The funding for "North Mymms Pictures From the Past" came from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the North Mymms Parish Council. All images have been heavily compressed to assist download speeds. The photographs in the actual book are much clearer and larger. More chapters will be added over the coming months. To view the index for the book click here. Don't bother clicking on any chapters other than the first four just now because all you will get are holding pages saying they are still being built. This process takes time and is being carried out by volunteers. The next chapter is likely to be added the week before Christmas.
