Free skate camp for one day only
A mobile skate camp is visiting Hatfield this Friday for one day only and it's free to take part. Details were mailed to this site by a regular user of the forum who felt local youngsters might be interested. Last summer there was a debate in this site’s forum about the need for skate facilities in the village. The one-day event is being staged on Friday 25 April at the Links Drive car park in Hatfield (across the road from the Market Place). It is being organised by Welwyn Hatfield District Council’s (WHDC) leisure department and is supported by the Welwyn Hatfield Community Safety Partnership. According to WHDC, there will be a variety of ramps and obstacles for all skill levels. Certain times have been set aside for various age groups.
According to the brochure, printed for the event, registration will take place on the day and skaters will need to give an emergency contact number and medical details as well as signing a code of conduct. However, a notice outside the Brookmans Park post office says that skaters must either pre-register for the event by phoning 01707-357174 for a form, or turn up with a parent on the day. The notice says that if skaters have not pre-registered, and turn up without a parent, they will not be allowed to take part. This information conflicts with that given in the official form, so if you are interesting in taking part it will probably be best to phone the number above first to make sure you will be accepted. WHDC is expecting the event will be popular and says entry will be on a first come basis. There will also be a DJ, computer games and a coffee bar.
