Jubilee street celebration details A flyer is being delivered to every house in Brookmans Park over the next few days asking people whether they are in favour of celebrating the jubilee in the village. The idea was first mooted in this site's forum. Since then the discussion thread has been read more than 500 times with almost 30 comments. During those discussions on the forum a small team decided to get together to plan further. The team has since met in the Brookmans Park Hotel to plan a course of action.
The first step was the creation and distribution of a flyer to try to gauge public opinion. That flyer is reproduced below along with a form which you can print out, fill in and pass on. Alternatively there is an e-mail address below.
A small group of people in the village is interested in trying to organise a golden jubilee celebration on June 1. The idea that we have had is to have some sort of 50s themed event during the late afternoon and evening based at the Brookmans in the centre of the village. We could have 50s music, a buffet, people dressed in 50s clothes and 50s décor.
However, before we go much further, we need to find out who would be interested in attending!
We are very keen to make this an event suitable for everyone, whether young or old. For this to work we need ideas and support from other people in the village.
We are also keen to ask people who remember the coronation of the Queen and who lived in the village to write down their memories from that year. These would be compiled and published and could be a fascinating historical snapshot of how Brookmans Park used to be 50 years ago.
