Travelling to school by bus and train in the 60s
The 60s school run
Two teenage schoolgirls getting off a south-bound train that's just arrived at Brookmans Park Station on 22 May 1969. These were the days when there was still a waiting room serving platforms 1 and 2. Click on the image to enlarge and then click again to zoom in. Do you remember those trains? Have you ever sat in the waiting room?
The girls have different uniforms, and they don't appear to have been travelling together. Do you know which schools they were from? Will they have caught the train in Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield or Welham Green?
Did you travel to and from school on the local buses and trains in the 60s and 70s? Do you have any memories to share?
Perhaps you caught the 315
Or the 343
Or did you catch the 303A?
Or the 717

Local resident, historian and photographer, Mike Allen, has collected more than 3,000 old images of North Mymms. He has carefully restored many and digitised them so that the area's pictorial past is preserved. Those images are available on a collection of three CDs, each containing 1,000 images. They can be bought from Mike for £10 each.
