Don't you just love old maps - this one from 1718

This lovely old map from 1718 tells us so much about how the area has changed. I'd love to know more about the pub the New Inn looking out over North Mimms Common. It was on what was called London Lane, now the Great North Road (A1000).

And what about these local roads, too. Some with strange names, although you will spot Bradmore Lane top right.

Local historian and archivist, Peter Miller, has helped me make sense of  the images. To see the map in close details and zoom in on the lanes and buildings, go to A tracing of a Gobions estate survey carried out c 1718 where we have uploaded one of the 20 local maps from the Gobions Heritage Report 2002 on our new history site, the North Mymms History Project.
The Brookmans Park Newsletter has been supporting the village and our local community since 1998 by providing free, interactive tools for all to use.
