Water for garden birds
« on: February 27, 2018, 08:09:17 am »
Please don't forget to leave fresh water out for birds during this cold snap. Our three bird baths were iced over this morning. I saw a hen blackbird trying to peck the ice. So I cleaned them all out, put fresh water in, and less than 10 minutes later a robin was taking a bath in one (that robin is a superhero) while a male blackbird was drinking from another. I have a theory that they see the light reflection in the fresh water and it attracts them. I guess they need water not only for drinking but for clearing mites too. Perhaps cie-cold water is effective.
