Brookmans Park residential roads over the years
« on: September 25, 2017, 09:06:00 pm »
A selection of pictures from Mike Allen's collection of 'Images Of North Mymms'. Mike, a local historian and photographer, has created three CDs containing pictures he has collected and digitised over the years. The following pictures show how some of the residential roads in Brookmans Park have changed. If you have any memories to share after seeing these pictures, please add your comments. Please note that the captions below each image are part of the photograph from Mike's collection. Some name the person who took the picture, others name the person who donated the image.

A local resident viewing this thread on our Facebook page has questioned the caption on the colour image, supposedly of Westland Drive in the '80s.

I think it looks more like The Gardens too, just on the way to Westland Drive

I agree it's the gardens. I can't work out BP913 above though, doesn't look like anywhere on Mymms Drive I recognise!

Given that most purchasers of properties in that part of BP demolish them and rebuild something bigger and better maybe that's not surprising :-)

A comment on our Facebook page mentions the garage in Brookmans Park. I searched through Mike Allen's photos and found two images added below.

Responding to June's Facebook past. There used to be two butchers in Brookmans Park. Johnson's is still there, and, almost opposite, there used to be another butchers called Alan Vincent.

Yes, Brookmans Park garage and petrol station was run by Gordon and the car showroom was up at Bell Bar, where the petrol station is now. Was it owned by a Mr Greenleaf?

I think the view is from Moffats Lane junction with Mymms Drive

I agree that BP913 is a photo taken from Moffats Lane looking up Mymms Drive.      Stan Hart the butcher pre-dates Johnsons and Vincents.   It was in half of what is now the Co-Op.   The other half was a fish shop run by a lady named Doris.

I remember the fish shop vaguely before it became part of what is now the co-op. It used to be Walton Hassell and Port which is a long defunct supermarket chain

BP913 is definitely Mymms Drive, the house in the middle of the photograph is no.75 the house I lived in as a child from 1963 to 1976.
