New Local Opportunity for Older Dancers
« on: March 03, 2017, 03:40:39 pm »

It is becoming more widely recognised that Dance is an activity which promotes 'wellness', by improving, for example, physical condition, mental capacity and mood. You may have seen occasional TV documentaries in the popular health strand demonstrating this, particularly in relation to older people. Which is all well and good, but without provision, which means a suitable and safe space and the motivation of company, it just remains tantalising.

Well, now something is being done about it locally. A handful of Hertfordshire dance groups running with the support of their local Councils are coming together with other groups run by organisations from the fitness/sport end of the spectrum, along with UH Arts, who have a Dance for Parkinsons research project, for a 5-hour day of dance activity workshops and informal performances, for and by people aged over 55 in Hertfordshire. There is an associated ongoing programme of support for group leaders to carry the momentum forward.

No previous dance experience is necessary or assumed, and attendance is FREE, with lunch provided.

The venue is University of Hertfordshire's Weston Auditorium, on the Airfield campus.
The date for your diary is Friday 24 March 2017, 10:00 - 15:00, but note that prior booking is required.

I have been distributing leaflets on behalf of the project coordinator to local hubs. You may find them at the Bradmore Green Library, the Welham Green Book Swap - if you're quick. I have just heard from her that she's had quite a spate of enquiries from Welham Green!

Alternatively, check out the project pages on the coordinator's website:
