Brookmans Park Village Day Saturday 17th June 2017
« on: February 23, 2017, 12:35:03 pm »
A few people have been asking when Village Day is this year so please put Saturday 17th June in your diaries. This year's theme is "All Creatures Great & Small" and more details will follow shortly.

In the meantime however, are there any local businesses out there who would like to sponsor the petting farm we are hiring in for the day in return for publicity?

Many thanks,

Helen Coffer

Just a suggestion: the Shuttleworth Collection is holding its Classic Evening Airshow on the day, so it may be possible to arrange a flypast by one or more participating aircraft (or from another airshow on the day) as they are likely to be making test flights.

It's too late to see about a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast - enroute to a display event - as requests need to be made in the previous year.

BBMF
"The BBMF also complete many flypasts each summer as they transit from display to display. The display season generally begins in May and finishes in September each year, and the Team are unable to perform flypasts outside this period."

That's an idea - thank you Trekbat. Funnily enough, we had a fly over in 2012 too - the Red Arrows from memory - a complete surprise to us, but a very nice one, especially as that year's Village Day had a Best of British & Jubilee theme!

Having said that, I've just checked the website and unfortunately it looks as though we won't be in luck as the flying doesn't begin until 6pm.

I wouldn't take the time as written in stone - there are usually several airshows on each weekend during the season, and Shuttleworth Trust aircraft may be taking part in some of these (I know they've made appearances at Flying Legends at Duxford); also there are privately-owned vintage aircraft based there, too.

Add in the likelihood of test flights, practice flights and pilots putting in their hours on type and it would be very unusual in normal weather conditions for there not to be several aircraft movements during the day.

Put it this way -  it wouldn't hurt to ask (Duxford and North Weald airfields are also fairly close prospects to try your luck).

Re: Red Arrows - they made a flypast in a 'Diamond 9' formation at the South Hatfield Fete in May 2012.

PS

For a fee (going to a worthy cause) you might be able to book the Grace Spitfire ML407 (although post-war converted into a two-seater it is a genuine WW2 combat veteran) - and she probably knows the area as she has given displays at Hatfield House's Battle Proms.

Now in its 58th year, come along to Brookmans Park Village Day on 17th June! This year's theme is All Creatures Great & Small, complete with a petting farm, pony rides, reptiles & creepy crawlies and a fun dog show.

Other attractions include fairground rides & stalls, inflatable fun, marketplace stalls selling everything from shabby chic homeware to clothes & jewellery, live band, hot food, licensed bar, candyfloss, live auction (sporting memorabilia & experiences up for grabs) & the chance to win 200 cash plus lots of other fabulous prizes in our raffle.

We are now taking stall bookings - these are available for 30 each, so if you want one please email villagedayexternalstalls[at]gmail[dot]com. If you would like to offer a prize or sponsor a stall in return for publicity, please email villagedaycommittee[at]gmail[dot]com.

The event is well attended and the footfall is between 1,000 & 2,000 people depending on weather.

Thank you!

Our Village Day online auction is now live. We have some fantastic items up for grabs - from theatre tickets and pampering to children's activities and family days out - so come and bag yourself a bargain.

Follow the link https://auctionofpromises.com/VillageDay2017- bidding closes at 10pm on Friday 9th June.

Take a look also at our fantastic raffle & live auction prizes to win on the day - we are delighted to have recently received a team-signed Spurs football shirt from Gary Mabbutt and a pair of boxing gloves signed by heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, secured by our main sponsor, Statons Estate Agents. Other prizes include a day at the motor racing, Brookmans Park tennis membership and many rugby and football items.

Our Village Day programmes are now in many local shops so pick one up & find out what other attractions are on offer on the day.

A big thank you to all our generous donors!

We are also running our Scruffs Fun Dog Show at Village Day, along with dog games and displays, plus a Safe & Sounds Around Dogs talk. As this is the first time in our memory that we have invited dogs onto the grounds (other than the pet shows that were held on the morning of Village Day in the good old days) we are a bit nervous about it, especially as we also have pony rides and a petting farm! So please only bring your dog if you are confident that he will be comfortable around children, dogs and other animals, and in large crowds. Please also make sure he is on a short (not extendable) lead and that you have plenty of poo bags! The attached flyer gives the timings of the classes and activities.

Thank you!

The forecast is looking promising, more Pimms is being ordered, the band is limbering up & we can't wait to auction off some fantastic items on Saturday! Anyone fancy bidding for a pair of Anthony Joshua's boxing gloves, Spurs shirt or Saracens rugby ball? All signed of course!

I was surprised to see that there weren't many tweets about Brookmans Park Village Day. Perhaps there were and people just didn't use any of those key words? Here's all that came up in my feed.

The Brookmans Park Newsletter has been supporting the village and our local community since 1998 by providing free, interactive tools for all to use.

I'm not on Twitter but I saw lots of Facebook posts. Thanks to everyone who came along yesterday & to all our supporters, stallholders & helpers - we hope you had a fun day. We certainly did.

For once, the weather was on our side. It was hot work setting up and clearing away though - not that we're complaining!

We'll post some photos soon but if anyone has any they care to share in the meantime then we'd love to see them.

Helen
