The Patient Group at "Potterells Medical Centre" are trialling two "Health Walks", if the initiative takes off, then it is proposed to introduce weekly circular walks in 2016.
The taster walks are 60 minutes long.
The details are:
Monday 2nd November 10.30am and Thursday 10th December again at 10.30am. Both walks will start and end at Potterells.
Everyone is welcome, they are safe and each walk will have trained leaders .
Please support and come along, its a great way to meet new people and at the same time, get HEALTHY!!

A BIG thank you to all the walkers who came on today's first Health Walk, 30 people enjoyed a good 60 minute walk and returned to the surgery for tea, coffee and biscuits. All who came enjoyed the experience and certainly there was a good atmosphere!
A reminder that we will be repeating a walk on Thursday 10th December at 10.30am, again from Potterells. All are welcome!
In the new year, we are planning to carry on with the Health Walks each week , on a Thursday, starting at the Brookmans at 10.30am . Parking at the Brookmans is permitted.More information about them will be available soon.

Walkers,
don't forget that there is a HEALTH WALK this Thursday, starting from Potterells Medical Centre at 10.30am. The walk will be about 70 minutes duration.
The weather might be a challenge, but its early days. We will walk come what may!
Please also note that we will be commencing weekly walks, from THE BROOKMANS, each Thursday morning, leaving 10.30am.

47 people came on the walk today which was brilliant, thanks to all walkers who came along.

7th January which is a Thursday, will see us commencing weekly walks from THE BROOKMANS, in the village , prompt 10.30am start!

Parking is permissible, but please go into the pub and record your vehicle registration if you need to park.

Make 2016 a fun,friendly and healthy 2016.

All are very welcome, no cost involved !

After the walk, let us go into the BROOKMANS for a celebratory drink ( not free!!) and get to know each other, that's what the walks are also about

Happy Christmas to you all, and a very Healthy 2016 New Year.

2016 has arrived, and so have the Health Walks you have been waiting for!!
A Healthy and fitter New year to all walkers.The walks are each week, so please support them.
Join us on Thursday 7th January at the "Brookmans" in the village, the walks commence at 10.30am, so please arrive around 10.15am to register.
Parking in the village is 2 hours, or you can park at the "Brookmans" - but please ensure that you register your car at the bar on the screen.
Hey, you could even walk there!!
We have a number of different routes planned to make the walks more interesting.
Following the walk, join us in the "Brookmans" for a well earned refreshment.
Make 2016 Healthy join the weekly walks, and live longer!
Please wear sensible footwear, there has been a great deal of rain!

Just to remind anyone interested in walking to keep fit, we have 52 great local walks on this site, all free to download and use. If you try them you can add comments on the walk page - a few local residents have already been adding their feedback and some tips, which is great - the more the merrier.

Delighted to say that 27 people went on the Brookmans Park Health Walk this Thursday. The weather was kind to us!
We didn't attempt walking through fields, we stuck to quiet roads.
Do join us next Thursday and every Thursday, we do circular walks from "The Brookmans" and the walks are around 1 hour.
Following the walks, we go in for a well earned drink! We start the walks at 10.30am, and parking is free at the "Brookmans"
Live longer, keep healthy!

Hi walkers!
A reminder that we have our usual Health Walk this coming Thursday, leave from the Brookmans at 10.30am.
We will be looking at the conditions of the off road walk tomorrow to see if its safe, and not too muddy for our walk.
Come along with sensible boots/walking shoes anyway.
The weather looks to be fine, so that's a result!!

A reminder to all Health Walkers, and would be walkers, our walks are EVERY Thursday and we leave the Brookmans at 10.30am.
The walks are about 70 minutes and the pace is determined by those on the walk.
We have a "back marker" who will stay with the walkers who are slower , and return them safely back to the Brookmans.
Its not a race but a Health Walk designed to help you keep fit and healthy.
Please wear sensible clothing, including walking shoes/boots.

On a lovely crisp, sunny day like we have today, walking comes to mind, and a reminder that we do have a Health Walk, of about 1 hours every Thursday. We leave the Brookmans at 10.30am, and ALL are most welcome, just turn up and its free!!
We walk in all weathers, unfortunately we cannot always deliver a morning like it is today!

This Saturday is the village day.
Health Walks/Potterells will be in attendance with a Gazebo at pitch 7A.
The event commences at 1pm please come by and have a chat and find out more about our walks. Currently around 20 people walk each week, and our target is to hit 30!
Its great fun, meet new people, make friends and above all- Keep healthy!

Hi All Walkers,

Brookmans Park to the "Woodman"

As promised we are having an additional walk which will be on Friday 12th August.

Meet at the usual place (The Brookmans) at the usual time (10:30).
It will take an hour to get there on the following route -
Brookmans Avenue, Golf Club Road, The Drive, Great North Road (pavement), Footpath 37 (through the transmitting station), Footpath 86, Grubbs Lane (no pavement for half the way), Footpath 84 to The Woodman .
The Woodman serves delicious, but basic, food and the best beer, of course.

We can then walk back or get the bus (which is free if you have a bus pass!!)- some may walk back, some may wish to bus.
The 201 bus leaves The Woodman at 13:20 and goes back to The Brookmans via Bell Bar or near Kentish Lane (for Upland Drive, say) and will stop anywhere along Mymms Drive and Moffats Lane.
All are welcome to join us.

Great walk outline, Alex, good choice. A route well trodden by Brewers over the years.

We have several of the walks on the site that cover the route. Extra care is needed when walking the dip and bend on Grubbs Lane just before the footpath over to The Woodman. Also, just after the Brookmans Park Transmitting Station and north of the water tower, look out for the spigot mortar emplacement hidden in the bushes and undergrowth to the right of the path to Grubbs Lane. If one of the regular walkers is with you he will point it out. The bus back is a great idea, we often use it on Tuesdays and Fridays. Some walks that include part of your route below.

Just a quick note to say that THURSDAY morning walks, 10.30am at the Brookmans are ongoing and will remain.
They are free, the walks of which we have many different ones, lasts about one hour.
The pace of the walk is determined by you, the walkers.
Come and join us, we are a fun group and always on the lookout for new walkers.

Hi,

a reminder that we have weekly walks every THURSDAY at 10.30am from the Brookmans.

All are very welcome.
We walk for about an hour at a leisurely pace!!

On FRIDAY 21st October, we are having an additional walk, again from the Brookmans 10.30am, and we will walk to the "Woodman" at Wild Hill, have lunch, then either get the 1.20pm bus back, or walk back.

Should be good, all are very welcome!

Hi,

our "Health Walks" take place every Thursday, leaving the "Brookmans Hotel" at 10.30am. Its free, and we walk for about an hour.
We get around 20 walkers every week, and we have been known to have occasional additional walks to the "Woodman" at Wild Hill on a Friday.
So "Yes", is the answer, and ALL are most welcome, just turn up around 10.15am to sign in.

I thought that it would be helpful to provide some information, which I have extracted from a National Newspaper this morning about the real benefits of WALKING, and its relationship in preventing or helping with TYPE 2 Diabetes . The following comments which I have extracted from the article, sum up the latest thinking;

"Type 2 diabetes should be renamed 'walking deficiency syndrome' because it is not a 'real disease', according to one of Britain's leading medical practitioners.
Sir Muir Gray has done extensive research on how modern lifestyles such as sitting at a desk or in a car are contributing to the risk of disease.
He claims that type 2 diabetes, which is largely preventable but costs the NHS billions of pounds a year to treat, should be renamed because it is caused by the 'modern environment'.
Speaking at the Oxford Literary Festival, Sir Muir said: 'Type two diabetes or walking deficiency syndrome, I'm trying to get the name changed."
Potterells Medical Centre and its Patient Group do have "Health Walks" each week from the "Brookmans Pub", every Thursday commencing at 10.30am. Its free! We walk for about one hour and ALL are welcome.
