WILKS family in North Mimms circa 1820
« on: October 26, 2004, 09:34:09 pm »
I am trying to find out about the WILKS family who lived in North Mimms in the early nineteenth century, as I am descended from John WILKS who was a family member, born about 1820+. He went to Ireland and married a girl named Ann HOARE from Tipperary. They had two daughters in Ireland, and a further son and daughter on their coming to England and settling in Peckham. I would like to know why John went to Ireland. Was he a soldier, perhaps? Also, where did he live in North Mimms? By the time of the 1841 census, he is already in Ireland. Was his family local for generations before him, I wonder ? Are there any descendants around today ?
Any snippets or pointers would be much appreciated.
