The Group arranging this event now has a link to their website for this event. It can be found by looking under links then Community on this website.
It is planned to put further information about the event on the site as planning progresses. So why not look in from time to time for updates.

Just a thought - it might be useful to have a map on the site to signal where Balloon Day On the Green will take place, just in case people are interested, but dont know where things will be.  Esp if events are spread across the village.

Doesnt need to be snazzy.

Looking forward to the day!  Didnt make the last one

Welcome to this Forum.

It is so easy for long-term residents to assume everyone knows where certain places are.

The event will be held on the village green in Welham Green.  This is the grassy area at the junction of Dixons Hill Road and Dellsome Lane.

The advert mentions a beer festival at the social club.  This is on Station Road (main road between Brookmans Park and Welham Green) next to the Memorial Hall and opposite the Sibthorpe Arms.

The 'Ballloon Corner' is on Dellsome Lane, Welham Green.  Head north past the shops and garage.  On the right hand side is a junction with Parsonage Lane and Huggins Lane.  On the grassed area at this junction is a stone plinth on which is an inscription telling of the hot air balloon landing by Vincenzo Lunardi.

Fingers crossed for another fine day for this event.

Bob - have been lurking here for a bit and thought Id come out to play!

As a Web Techie I thought that the BDontheG website needed a bit more info for those who, as you say, do not know the locality, but like the idea of coming along for the day.

( Sadly, I, myself, know the village far too well :D )

The object of this event is to get lots of local people involved so maybe you could help them develop their website?  Their email address is on it.

An event like this needs lots of pre-preparation and help on the day.  I feel sure the organising committee would appreciate all offers of help.  Last year was a bit rushed but it worked out OK on the day.  This year the preparation has started a lot earlier.

On the Green there will be hot dogs, candyfloss, and an ice-cream van.  There will be cream teas in the Memorial Hall and there is a mini Beer Festival and refreshments at the Social Club (next to the Memorial Hall), including a specially produced local brew from the Buntingford Brewery "Balloon Bitter".  Something for everyone!

Thanks for the reply. I know the committee have been working very hard to make the event a really special one. I hear that Grant Shapps will be opening it. Lets hope that the sun shines on Saturday.

I understand that whilst the Beer festival is taking place this weekend. It has not been organised by the Welham Green Balloon Day Committee, but by the North Mymms Social Club.

Apart from a downpour just before the start and the odd spot of rain during the afternoon, a great day. Hope that someone can post some pictures here before too long.

A lot of work went into the day, from the children and their parents in the fancy dress to those who organised the event and ran stalls. The historical pictures displayed in the Memorial Hall were excellent. Well done to one and all. An enjoyable day.

Stad, you are quite right, the mini beer festival was organized by the Social Club. The original question was "what can we do to support the Balloon Day?" and the idea of a beer festival sprang from that desire to be involved and support the event.
I hope that you dropped by and enjoyed a pint of "Balloon Bitter"
