Welham Green As One
« on: November 09, 2007, 07:03:07 am »
A meeting has been called for Monday night 12 November by residents in Welham Green, aimed at setting up a new community group to 'improve community spirit in the area'.

The following is taken from a flyer, produced to publicise the meeting, which is at 1830 at St Mary's school.

Quote
Following on from the Summers Anti–Social Behaviour Q & A session held by the Borough Council, council officers and community representatives are in the process of pulling together a Community Group who can work together to create a community spirit and improve facilities.

Your village needs you… we would welcome support from anyone who is able to dedicate some time for the good of the village. This is an opportunity for local residents to tackle issues that affect the village together.

Can you please say who produced the flyer and when. I would be interested to know, since I live in Welham Green and have neither seen or heard anything abouit this meeting.

Hi Strad,

It was forwarded to me to publicise on the site. I will contact the person who emailed it and ask them if they can add any more details.

That'll be me then.

Following the antisocial behaviour meeting in August, details here:

A working group was set up, details here:

I was sent the flyer as I have been along to one of the working group meetings since then. The flyer was sent from Welwyn Hatfield Council. The wording on the email was 'Please find attached leaflet inviting yourself and local residents to the meeting on Monday 12 November 2007 to discuss membership of the WGWG.'

The object of the meeting is to form a group to take control of this work, in particular so we are working with and not being directed by the Borough Council.

It is therefore crucial that people get there and get their hands up.

News release just in from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. There is an article on this currently running on the site. Click here to read.

20 November 2007

Power to the People of Welham Green

A new partnership initiative places community improvement directly in the hands of the residents of Welham Green.

Borne out of previous community meetings and concerns about the lack of youth provision and resultant anti social behaviour in the area, the Welham Green Working Group was formed on Monday 12 November.

The working group, chaired by Parish Councillor Peter Hastings, is comprised of local residents, supported by the parish council, police, youth service and the Partnerships, Community Safety and Anti Social Behaviour teams of the council.

These parties will work together in a resident-led initiative to progress the ‘Good Neighbourhood Agreement’ and other community events.

The previously successful Youth Project has been resurrected to work alongside the working group. The project will be chaired by local resident, Helen Shearer, and will work with local youths to improve provision for young people in the area.

The groups are said to have lots of great ideas about engaging the whole community in creating improvements to the village.

Anti Social Behaviour Team Manager Kerry Clare said: “This is a really positive move towards involving local residents in dealing with the issues that affect them. Community engagement and empowerment is something that we strongly support, and if successful, we would hope to look at rolling out similar initiatives throughout the borough.”

For more information, please contact Councillor Peter Hastings (tel 07974 170431) or Helen Shearer (tel c/o 01707 357083).

Best wishes

The Welham Green As One group and local Police and Borough Council are holding a meeting at the North Mymms Youth and Community Centre on 21st May at 7.30. The purpose is to discuss a large village event to be held in September near the anniversary of the balloon landing there.

We aim to discuss sites, activities, jobs and responsibilities and we would like many people there to offer their views and help.

Any queries or ideas please message me.

Thanks

Peter Hastings
