POLICE APPEAL FOLLOWING ROBBERY IN POTTERS BAR
By Susie ODea

POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information following a robbery at Murco Petroleum in Barnet Road, Potters Bar on Friday September 1.

The robbery happened at 2.35pm. A man drove into the forecourt of the petrol station, filled his vehicle with petrol, then came into the shop and asked for a packet of cigarettes. He then pulled a knife from inside his jacket, held it to the staff member’s chest and demanded that the till be opened. He reached across the counter, took a sum of money from the till and made off in his vehicle.

The offender is described as a white male in his mid-40s, about 6’ tall and of stocky build, with short black hair. He wore dark clothing.

Detective Constable Anna Borella from the Central Area Crime Unit said: “The offender made off in a blue vehicle. We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the robbery and saw either the vehicle or a man matching the offender’s description.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Borella on 01707 638 218. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Another from Herts Constabulary, again, just outside our area, but probably worth highlighting.

CASHBOX ROBBERY IN POTTERS BAR
By Corporate Communication Dept

POLICE are appealing for information and witnesses following a cashbox robbery in Potters Bar.

The robbery at McDonalds in Darkes Lane follows an earlier incident where a petrol station in Barnet Road, Potters Bar, was robbed at knifepoint at around 2.35pm on the same day. Cash was taken from the till.

Police stress that these two incidents are not linked.

The second incident occurred at around 4.26pm on Friday, September 1. A security guard had just picked up a cashbox from McDonalds in Darkes Lane, when he was approached by a white male.

The man demanded that he hand over the cashbox and then snatched it from the security guard. No weapon was seen and the security guard was unhurt, though shocked by the ordeal.

The offender then ran along an alleyway that runs along the side of the railway and links Darkes Lane and Mutton Lane. The cashbox was later found in the alleyway. The red dye had been triggered which means it is very likely the suspect would have been covered in red substance.

The offender then made off in a dark coloured estate car. It is not believed he got away with any cash.

PC Alex Barrett said: “We would like to speak with anyone who witnessed this crime or who saw the suspect making off or attempting to open the cashbox in the alleyway. Did you see the dark coloured estate vehicle?

”If you can help, please ring 01707 638234. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
