Title: How North Mymms country estates benefited from exploitation and slavery
Post by: Editor on April 10, 2018, 04:25:19 pm
Fascinating article about North Mymms wealth and slavery (https://www.northmymmshistory.uk/2018/04/the-east-india-company-impact-on-north.html) by former Brookmans Park resident Dr Chris Jeppersen, just added to our new history site the North Mymms History Project (https://www.northmymmshistory.uk).

The item is a chapter from a book entitled The East India Company at Home 1757-1857 (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ucl-press/browse-books/the-east-india-company-at-home). It tells how the four large houses of North Mymms: Brookmans, Potterells, Gobions, and Moffats, all benefited from the wealth derived from the East India Company's involvement in trade, exploitation, and slavery.

We've just uploaded our second feature looking at how wealth from the East India Company shaped North Mymms. This one written by the late Peter Kingsford and published in 1993, entitled The East India Company and North Mymms (https://www.northmymmshistory.uk/2018/04/the-east-india-company-and-north-mymms.html). It's the latest feature to be added to our new history site, the North Mymms History Project (https://www.northmymmshistory.uk).
