Title: Shop changes in the village
Post by: Alex on August 07, 2017, 06:19:37 pm
All change in the village I believe .
Post office is closing and moving to dry cleaners in October.
Post office to become furniture shop.
The opticians which closed some time ago, is to become a barbers shop.
All very interesting

A furniture shop in the post office?  Really?  Not an obvious choice.  How much furniture can they display in such a small shop.

Update on the above. The move of the post office to share premises with the dry cleaners is, apparently 80% finalised, according to a spokesperson for the dry cleaners. The two concerns will continue to operate in the one location. They are hoping for an October move.

Thanks steevey, I have just spoken to the Wing Wah owner who confirmed that they are closing. I was told a date has not been set yet, and until then they are continuing to operate.

I hope they relocate nearby, I have been going there since the 1970's - 655134 is ingrained firmly in my head!

Interesting to see a furniture shop will be opening along that parade of shops. Its where Mr Brown had a furniture and carpet shop in the '60s or so. Now I'm showing my age!

Wing Wah now closed, last night was their last day of trading

A great shame, will miss them.

Mohammed in the post office on Bradmore Green says the last day of business will be January 15. The day after, January 16, the new post office opens in the dry cleaners - a few doors down on the same block. Mohammed will be working part time, so we can still enjoy his cheery smile.  :-)

I don't drive through the village that often these days so the last couple of times I've noticed Wing Wah was shut I just assumed they were on holiday or something.

I'm gutted thats gone, been using it since the late 70's and went to primary school with their kids. Feels like the end of an era.

I always assumed they owned the premises as they've been there for around 40 years. I wonder what the owner intends to do with it?

Does anyone know if they're planning to re-open somewhere else or is that it?

Finally can anyone recommend a decent Chinese in Potters Bar if thats allowed?

My understanding having spoken to them before they closed that they don't intend to reopen elsewhere, but I could be wrong.

Hi GGDT, no, local restaurant recommendations are not allowed in the public forum, although it's fine for people to send you a private message. I think it best to use TripAdvisor. I know some of the recommendations can be dodgy, but I always check the number of posts those giving high or low scores have made in the past. You mentioned Potters Bar. Click on this link for the top rated Trip Advisor restaurants in that area (https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurants-g1096775-Potters_Bar_Hertfordshire_England.html). You can narrow the search by using the filtering on the left and just check the box for 'Chinese' food.
