Title: Keeping fit in Gobions Open Space
Post by: Editor on July 01, 2017, 08:00:29 am
Four pieces of outdoor gym equipment have been set up in Gobions Open Space just south of the public car park. The equipment has been supplied by Caloo (http://www.caloo.co.uk/), for North Mymms Parish Council - NMPC (http://www.northmymms.org), and includes a skier (http://www.caloo.co.uk/product/skier/), a body twist (http://www.caloo.co.uk/product/body-twist/), a cross rider (http://www.caloo.co.uk/product/cross-rider/), and an air walker (http://www.caloo.co.uk/product/air-walker/). Have you tried them? What do you think?

According to NMPC minutes from March, the cost of three of the pieces was estimated at 5k. The latest minutes with the final cost don't appear to have been uploaded to the NMPC site at the time of this posting. Minutes from the NMPC Amenities Committee, held in April, suggest the cost will be covered with "8946 Section 106 monies".

Note: Under S106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, contributions can be sought from developers towards the costs of providing community and social infrastructure, the need for which has arisen as a result of a new development taking place. This funding is commonly known as 'Section 106'.

Just been to try the equipment out with my wife. Conclusion...

Has anyone used the outdoor gym equipment in Gobions Open Space? I have been walking up there most days since they were installed and I have yet to see anyone using the machines.

They were in good use early evening today as I was walking the dog, in fact I went that way to see if I could have a go - and there was a queue!  :)

I met two people in my local last night who said they'd used the equipment and liked it. Unexpected target audience group, but one that could clearly benefit from the new machines.  :)

Would any local health trainer like to put together a short workout programme for those wanting to try out the new outdoor gym equipment in Gobions Open Space?  Perhaps 20 mins long involving five minutes on each, and setting out which order to use them in?  It might help those of us who are a bit afraid of either using them incorrectly or in the wrong order.

If you are able to help put together a short routine, please send me a personal message via the forum, or use the contact us form (http://www.brookmans.com/contact.php) - be sure to add your contact details.

In the meantime, embedded below are the pdfs about each piece of kit showing the area of the body they are designed to help and how to use them. (To print the instructions below, hover over each pdf to reveal the printer button. If you want to see them in full screen, hit the 'expand to page' button and then the '+' tab.)
