Drove past this historic building in Bell Lane, Bell Bar today. Carpenters Cottage Grade II listed (http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=158519&mode=quick) Shocked to see the current condition.......I hope it is repaired soon and not allowed to degrade......A bit of digging revealed the following..........
Note: Edited to fix image.
used to walk past this and it looked so wonderful
The figure of £70,000 seems excessive. What damage could be caused to the interior to add up to that amount? Also, the smashed basin and shower must have been done with some heavy tools - it's not casual horse-play. Is there more to this than meets the eye?
I guess the interest in this story is the future of a local Grade II listed building, not the alleged circumstances leading to the boarding up. The story first appeared in the S*n and the allegations, which have been denied, were repeated by others. I think speculation at this stage might be legally risky, so I'm locking this thread. Hopefully we can reopen it once the building is restored and a new picture is available. David
