Title: New weekend service Brookmans Park to Moorgate from 13 December
Post by: Editor on November 11, 2015, 03:46:54 pm
Great Northern has announced timetable changes affecting local services from the middle of next month. Quote from the link below…

Quote
From 13 December, inner suburban route trains which previously ran into King’s Cross at night and at weekends will operate to Moorgate in the centre of London, via the Northern City Line stations of Drayton Park, Highbury & Islington, Essex Road and Old Street.

That's a right pain as it will mean there are now only two trains an hour from Kings X to Potters Bar rather than the 4 there are now.

Not sure why they've decided that people will want to go into the City at the weekend? It's like a ghost town!

But you will be able to change at Highbury and Islington on to the Victoria Line which will get you to West End locations quicker than going via Kings Cross.

Also in the timetable change they are putting evening trains after 8pm up from 2 per hour to 3 per hour which will be very welcome!

The lack of trains direct to Kings Cross at weekends is a loss to those of us who don't use the underground.  It's been a great benefit not having to change at Potters Bar or Finsbury Park to get to Kings Cross overground.

Great Northern are launching their new timetable tomorrow by cancelling 50% of the services due to their perennial driver shortage. Timetable for tomorrow (Sunday) available here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/static/images/content/GNTimetable.pdf

Hi James, where did you get the information that there is a 50% cancellation of services? Is there a news release you could point to confirming, please? (by the way I embedded the pdf you shared in your post above).

Ah, so the new timetable doesn't involve a 50% reduction; what you mean is that tomorrow is a bit of a mess. Worth clarifying in your original post because I think it's slightly ambiguous. A few might be considering lining up for a rebate on their annual season tickets if they take it the wrong way.

I checked the National Rail Enquiries website, it appears they are only running one Moorgate service an hour tomorrow.

Its a good job they run more than one service during the week.....
