Post by: Ferdie on July 06, 2008, 07:17:00 pm
The Youth and Community Centre, Station Road, Welham Green has its AGM 7.30pm Wednesday 9th July 2008. Anyone who has an interest in the activities on offer at the Centre, which is run as a charity or just an interest in the local community is welcome. The committee who manage the centre are keen to see as many of the local community present, from those who use the Centre or have an interest in supporting the community. The Management Committee is comprised of volunteers drawn from the local community is always open to new members and in particular is looking for a new person to take on the role of Chairperson. The committee meets once a month to discuss the running of the centre on subjects such as the upkeep, fundraising, centre bookings and finance. Meetings usually last only an hour. Volunteering is not an onerous task, indeed it may enable YOU to be more involved in YOUR local community, so what are you waiting for? !

AGM took place last night. No big surprise, only 2 members of the 'general public' there, 1 was me, the other was Peter Hastings, who has kindly volunteered to be the new Chair of the Centre Committee. 2 trustee's were there and 6 of the existing committee, so hardly a mass turnout!

The outgoing chairman, Keith Pieri who will remain on the committee reported on another successful year with all the regular bookings continuing. On the Centre, Keith reported that the toilets have been refurbished and now include disabled facilities, the roof guttering attended to and the main hall, bar and reception area re-decorated. The Jumble Sale held in January was another success as was the quiz night. He concluded thanking the small band of volunteers who make up the committee and other friends of the Centre, without whom the Centre would not be able to continue operating.
