Invalid accounts
« on: January 01, 2006, 03:09:14 pm »
A number of forum accounts have invalid email addresses. Several of these accounts have never been activated. The majority have never posted. These accounts will be deleted.

I will not delete any where the forum member has posted. However, if you have changed your email address since registering, could you please log on and go to your profile and put the new email address in the details.

Anyone who wants to register again with a valid email address is free to do so.

Would all registered users please check that your profiles are kept up-to-date and your contact details and email addresses are correct.

The recent newsletter announcing the changes to the site's forum resulted in a number of bounced emails which indicates that the email address it was sent to is no longer valid.

We are keen to ensure the tightest security on the site in order to protect our forum members from spammers and the forum from being abused.

As a result we need to freeze all accounts with invalid email addresses.

We will give it a month so people have plenty of time to update their accounts.

Another update will be sent out in March and any accounts with invalid email addresses will be temporarily suspended.

They can always be restored on request.

Hopefully such security checks will help us keep spammers away.

Regards

David

Hi all,

When I sent out the newsletter to all 691 registered members, a number bounced back with invalid addresses.

This could be because legitimate forum members have changed email addresses and forgotten to update their accounts.

All profiles need to be updated for security reasons.  Could the following forum members please log in and update your email addresses.

If the accounts are not updated and validated by the end of the month, the accounts will be deleted.

If those listed want to post and reply 'done' it will make it easier to see which have been updated.

Thanks

David

A reminder to all the users mentioned above. If the accounts are not updated with active email addresses, they will be deleted at the end of the month. If you are in the list and have updated your details, please either post here or send me a personal message so that your account is not deleted.

Regards

David

After sending the message to forum users about the guidelines change yesterday, I received 67 bounced mails.

Some of those belong to regular users who have visited the site recently and posted frequently. I have sent those people personal messages asking them to update their email addresses the next time they log on.

For security reasons we only want forum users with valid email addresses.

I have deleted 60 accounts based on the following criteria: they had an invalid email address and had either never logged on, or had not logged on for more than 300 days.

Anyone whose account has been deleted is more than welcome to register again.
