Welham Green car break ins - police warning
« on: October 12, 2017, 10:07:22 pm »
From neighbourhood watch...

Dear Watch Member,

We have had several thefts and attempted thefts from motor vehicles over the last week within the area of Welham Green. If anyone has seen or heard anything do not hesitate to contact me. Please make sure you do not leave anything on display and take any valuables out of your cars. Make sure that your vehicle is locked when you leave it with the windows up and secure. Do not ignore car alarms. If you hear one, take a peek it may stop another thief taking what is not theirs.

Regards,
Samantha Griffin

That's me being sloppy and just copying and pasting the neighbourhood watch message as it is when it arrives. I sometimes don't have the time to go over their copy and correct. But I will go back in and fix. Thanks for pointing it out. (They also have an interesting way of using a full stop at the beginning of a sentence rather than at the end. I'll fix that while I am at it.   ;)

It would be very useful to know whether the thieves target cars in the daytime, evening or night.  Also, whether the robbed cars have been left unlocked.

I'm not sure anyone would admit to leaving their car unlocked as it probably affects their ability to claim on insurance

The Welwyn Hatfield Times are reporting that arrests have been made:

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at 23.31pm on Monday, October 16, to reports of five men suspected to be trying to break into vans on Huggins Lane, Welham Green.”

Men travelling in a grey BMW were later arrested by police on the M25 near South Mimms on suspicion of going equipped to steal.
