Take a walk in Panshanger Park - recommended

Had a lovely walk in Panshanger Park today. Beautiful mix of old oak woodland, open meadows, lakes and river. Recommended. The river Mimram runs through the park. It's one of only 210 chalk bed rivers on the planet - 160 of such rivers are in England. Amazing place. Rich in flora, loads of butterflies and bird life. Excellent. Some pics below. By the way, the picture at the bottom is of a crayfish taken with an 800mm zoom from a footbridge - so that's why it's not great quality. Free parking and some nice picnic spots near the car park and along the way. There is even a spot along the way where you can paddle in the Mimram.

Hi Nobby, sure, grid reference = TL306124. To get there from Brookmans Park, just take the B158 north from Brookmans Park. Drive through Essendon and join the A414 Hertford Road, turning right at the roundabout and then head towards Hertford. Pass Cole Green dump, cross the next roundabout continuing on the A414. At the next roundabout on the outkirts of Hertford, turn left up Thieves Lane and then turn immediately left into the Panshanger Park, Car Park. Put this address into Google Maps.  Thieves Lane, Hertford SG14 2WN. Some grabs of maps below, and here is a map of the reserve to take with you.

As an ornithologist you might be interested in the reed beds along the Mimram between Riverside Lake and Kings Lake. There was some movement in there yesterday but I didn't have my binoculars with me.
