Are you going Sober For October?

If you've signed up to the Go Sober For October for Macmillan Cancer Support, feel free to publicise your personal campaign by sharing your fund-raising page below.

You can take part simply: 1) because you want to see if you can stay off the booze for a month, 2) to try to get fit, 3) because someone you know has or has had cancer, or 4) to support Macmillan in its fund raising efforts.

So any local residents who want to share how well they are doing, please post below.

Doing well, thanks. I have a beer tankard filling up with the money I would have spent on wine and beer which will now go to Macmillan Cancer Support, so everyone is a winner. And it's not as hard as I thought it would be, but the real test will be when there is a social event where others are enjoying a pint. You can buy yourself a 'Golden Ticket' for £15 (which all goes to Macmillian) if you want to have a drink during the month, but I am determined not to give in.

Yes, in the end it wasn't as big a deal as I expected. Friends were very supportive, especially down at my local. I thought a few social events we had planned would be a problem, but there weren't. Lost a bit of weight, too. I've discovered that you don't save much money not drinking alcohol; the non-alcoholic options are often as expensive or even more expensive in some cases. But I am pleased I did it.
