Classified ads moves to the forum
« on: January 15, 2015, 06:10:56 pm »
The site’s classified adverts section now has a new home here in the forum. The old classified adverts section can still be found here, but the form for posting new items has been removed and, instead, local residents are encouraged to post here in this new forum category.

As with any other forum post, please start a new thread for each item and give it an eye-catching headline. You can also upload an image or two of what you are selling if you want.

The Brookmans Park Newsletter classified adverts is for local, private sales only and not commercial/trade transactions or promotions. It's for people to dispose of unwanted goods and for those buying to pick up a bargain. Individuals may post regarding the sale of larger items, such as houses or cars, but agents are not allowed to use the facility to sell goods that would normally be traded commercially. You can also post about help needed or job offers. You might be looking for local recommendations, if so then the new Classified Ads category is the place to post. (Please remember that responses to recommendation requests must be made via the internal personal message system and not in the public forum). I have moved some earlier recommendation post over to start to populate this new category.

The thinking behind this is that 1) posts will be more visible, 2) people can add pictures, and 3) forum members can discuss the posting if they want to. All you need to do to get started is:
 • Register for a free account on this forum
 • Log in and go to the Classified Adverts section
 • Start a new discussion topic - by clicking on 'New Topic'
 • Write an eye catching post headline
 • Upload a picture if you want by clicking on the 'Attachments and other options' tab
 • Save your message and it will then show up on the front page of the site
 • You can then tweet or Facebook share the link to your advert if you want
Hope you find it useful.

Please note: There is no charge to use the facility and all dealings will be between you and the person buying off you or selling to you. The Brookmans Park Newsletter can take no responsibility for unsatisfactory sales and nor can it take responsibility for the quality of goods on offer, the fairness of the price, or the safety of those offering their services or those receiving services. Anyone under the age of 18 who is offering their services via the classified ads must first obtain the approval of a parent or guardian. If the volunteer moderators of The Brookmans Park Newsletter Forum feel any material is offensive, the advert will be removed.

A reminder that the site's Classified Adverts section was moved to the forum at the beginning of the year.

The new classified adverts section of the forum seems to be working well. In the last few days I have recycled an office desk and chair, a three-door pine wardrobe, and a two-seater oak futon sofa bed. If you do use the section, consider adding a picture of the item you are offering, I think that helps - especially if you tweet a link to your post and add the picture to your tweet, too.

For those wanting to use the forum for classified adverts, you can always include a link or an embed to items you are recycling or selling on eBay, Gumtree or Streetlife. Feel free to promote your local sales here, too, so that you get more visibility. If possible, upload pictures in order to help sell your goods. I am selling some first day covers (stamps) on Gumtree and have included an embed to the site and have posted it here in the classified section as a demonstration. All are welcome to do the same.

A reminder that the classified adverts section is now in the forum. You can post items you are selling here or link to any adverts you have running on ebay, Gumtree or any other classified site. I am going to upload a couple this afternoon. Please feel free to do the same.

Update: I've added a few adverts of my own this afternoon to show how the facility can be used.

If you want to create an embed of your Gumtree or ebay page simply go to embed.ly, click on 'Create Embed' and follow the instructions (there is also a browser plugin which I use). Once you have the embed script you need to put it in your post. To do this you have to add the following code and put the embed script in the middle. Here is the code you need to add.

Code: [Select]
Put your embed code here
Feel free to add details of the product, and then add any images by clicking on 'attachments and other options' below your forum post.
