Report on population and housing in Brookmans Park
« on: May 05, 2015, 10:37:08 am »
I've written a report about Brookmans Park with some information on the population and housing in the village. It looks at things like the age of the population and types of families.  It goes on to show some aspects of housing and households: the types of buildings and the average size of households living in them.  It also has a look at house prices and earnings.

A lot of the information is from the 2011 Census but parts of it are about changes over the last 10 years.  And then there are population numbers (for North Mymms Parish) going back to 1801.

You can find it on here: http://www.brookmans.com/history/demographics.shtml

Thanks for sharing this, Richard, some fascinating findings in the summary, supported with data later. I have picked out just a few of the bullet points that local residents might find interesting.
  • The detailed information from 2011 Census shows 1,400 dwellings in the village. Around 4.3% of these are vacant or second homes, similar to the rate for England.
  • 59.4% of the households in Brookmans Park live in detached houses, over double the proportion in Welwyn Hatfield and England.
  • 21.7% of the household spaces in Brookmans Park have 5 or more bedrooms, over four times the proportion for England.
  • 72.2% of the households in Brookmans Park have only 0.5 or fewer people per room, a noticeably higher proportion than Welwyn Hatfield (50.7%) or England (53.9%).
  • 66.7% of the households in Brookmans Park have two or more bedrooms than they require. For England the figure is 34.3%.
The Brookmans Park Newsletter has been supporting the village and our local community since 1998 by providing free, interactive tools for all to use.
