Snowdrop Sunday
« on: February 05, 2015, 07:38:13 pm »
Each year the snowdrops appear in the Churchyard at St Mary's Church, North Mymms. Many people who visit their loved ones at rest in the churchyard marvel at this display that Spring is on its way and the congregation would like to share the spectacle with as many people as possible from the villages of Brookmans Park, Welham Green and beyond. This Sunday, 8th Feb we are celebrating Snowdrop Sunday at St. Mary's Church from 2.00-4.00pm. There will be refreshments and music from some of our talented parishioners.

Otherwise known as Candlemas Bells, (the Festival of Candlemas which we celebrated at the Family service last Sunday) the Latin name for the flower is 'Galanthus' which means the 'milk flower'. According to legend, the snowdrop became the symbol of hope when Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden. When Eve was about to give up hope that the cold winters would ever end, an angel appeared. She changed some of the snowflakes into snowdrop flowers, proving that winters do eventually give way to the Spring.

Come and see our 'symbol of Spring'. All are most welcome!

Thank you to those who attended this afternoon, but to those who missed it, a chance to see some of the delicate harbingers of Spring.
