Brookmans Park Village Day SATURDAY 21st JUNE 2014
« on: March 13, 2014, 02:38:02 pm »
Now that Spring seems to have finally arrived, we've been turning our thoughts to Village Day, the annual summer fete organised by Brookmans Park Primary School.

This year's theme is 'World Carnival', a festival of colour from around the world. It ties in nicely with this year’s World Cup, which is being hosted by Brazil. So dig out your feathers, garlands, Hawaiian shirts & grass skirts & join us on the village green at 12.45pm for our fancy dress parade. Everyone welcome, big or small - the more the merrier!

In spite of last year’s awful weather, the children who stuck it out made great use of their Freedom Passes! £8 in advance or £10 on the day buys each child an unlimited number of goes on a variety of rides, including pony rides, fairground attractions and inflatables. These will be on sale nearer the time and full details will follow.

We're currently gathering this year's raffle & auction items & are always on the lookout for new & exciting prizes, so if you think you or anyone you know could help by donating a prize then we'd love to hear from you!

We would also be very pleased to hear from anyone who may like to be involved on the day by helping out, hiring a pitch or by sponsoring a stall or attraction. We're taking pitch bookings now, so act quickly to ensure a space!

I'm attaching our flyer which gives some more details. Please IM me if you’re interested or email me at villagedaycommittee[at]gmail[dot]com.

Thanks,

Helen Coffer
on behalf of the 2014 Village Day Committee

Thanks David! I wish I knew how to embed posts - is this something we can do ourselves or can only the administrators do it?

Hi Helen
You can do it by highlighting the PDF and using the PDF icon or the code.

If you quote your own post, you can see at the bottom how David did it (don't repost though!). Always a good idea to preview before posting to check it's worked.

Hope that makes sense!

Hi Angel, you are correct, but the PDF needs to be on a server somewhere and have a web address. You can't do it if the PDF is parked on your desktop. I downloaded Helen's PDF, uploaded it to our server where it then had a url. I then used the PDF code around that url and the document appeared. Here is the url for the document embedded above.

We still have one, or possibly two, spaces left for quarter page adverts in this year's Village Day programme.

They cost just £20 each - if you're interested in advertising your business please message us or email us at villagedaycommittee[at]gmail[dot]com and spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

If you'd like to advertise but do not have an advert that we can use, then for an additional £10 we can design one for you.

Thank you for your support.

With Village Day fast approaching, the committee is hard at work & our thoughts have turned to music for this year's 'World Carnival' theme.

As such, we wonder if there's anyone out there with a set of steel drums that they would like to come along & play at the beginning of the afternoon for a short session in return for lots of publicity!

If you, or anyone you know, is interested, please message me, email villagedaycommittee[at]gmail[dot]com or phone me on 07990 584910.

Also, we're just finalising the auction & raffle prizes & have some real corkers for you this year, with the chance to win an iPad Mini in the raffle, plus many other fantastic prizes. If you would like to donate a prize it's not too late to do so. In return we'll give you lots of publicity & display your item on the day if applicable.

Thanks, as ever, for your support!

I'm looking for a bit of advice that some of you techies out there might be able to help me with.

We're tryig to source a wireless microphone for Village Day but, with the interference from the BBC aerials, we're wary of getting one of the cheaper ones with only 1 or 2 set channels, but can't afford the ones with 8+ channels.

If anyone out there has a wireless microphone that works in the Brookmans Park area, do you know what frequency it's set to? As you can tell, this is not my area of expertise & I don't want to buy one that doesn't work!

Thanks!

Thanks David, we're not necessarily looking to borrow one (although we have had one very generous offer already that we might be taking the person up on!) - it's more that we're looking for advice on what to buy, if we decide to go down that road.

We're delighted to announce our auction & raffle prizes, which this year are a fabulous as ever thanks to the generosity of our donors!

There is a chance to win an iPad Mini in our raffle plus lots of other prizes bundles, many totalling in excess of £100 in value. To buy tickets at £1 each just come along on the day or pop into Tuffets Toys & Tales in the village (open Mon-Sat, closed Wed afternoons).

In the live auction on the day we have some fabulous prizes including a bottle of whisky signed by the Prime Minister, Spurs hospitality with ex-Spurs & England defender Gary Mabbutt & a signed One Direction book. To bid, come along on the day - the auction will take place at 3pm next to the bar area (weather permitting) - or, if you can't make it on the day, contact us at villagedaycommittee[at]gmail[dot]com if you would like us to bid on your behalf.

If you can't wait until Village Day, then our online auction goes live at 8pm tonight. Full details will follow shortly.

For more details of the day, including a copy of our programme online (there are paper copies in some of the local shops) please visit: https://sites.google.com/site/brookmanspta/village-day?pli=1

Thank you to everyone who supported our online auction, either as a donor or a bidder. The auction raised over £1,200 & we've now also sold a few other items that hadn't previously attracted any bids, bringing our total to almost £1,300.

Don't forget, raffle tickets are for sale in Tuffets Toys & Tales - you might win an iPad Mini or one of the fantastic prize 'bundles' on offer!

Attached are our final raffle & auction lists - some fabulous prizes to be won in the raffle, including the chance to win an iPad Mini, plus many amazing lots in the live auction!

In addition to Spurs Hospitality with Spurs & England defender Gary Mabbutt, there's also the chance to win a certificated Tottenham Hotspur shirt, signed by all the players or a football signed by footballing legends Paul Gascoigne & Gary Mabbutt.

It's not all about football though - you can bid on a signed copy of One Direction's latest book or a 1 year family membership at the Tennis Club, to name but a few.

We hope to see you there on Saturday - we've even ordered sun for the day so we're keeping everything crossed!  :)

Well folks, it seems that this year the sun is finally shining on Village Day!  :D

So grab your Hawaiian shirts & sun cream & head on down to the fancy dress parade on the village green at 12.45pm today! England might be out of the World Cup, but our Rio-inspired World Carnival-themed Village Day should take your mind off it for a few hours.

Gates open at 1pm - we hope to see you there!

Hi Helen, it would be good if anyone tweeting updates and pictures of Brookmans Park Village Day 2014 uses the hashtag #bpvd2014. It might be worth the MC reminding people of the hashtag. That way you can keep a track of all the information people are sharing about the day. That hashtag again, #bpvd2014.  I have tweeted about that (using a picture from last year) and the event.

Thanks Mermaid!  :)

Thanks to everyone who came out to support us yesterday - the sun really did shine on us! We hope you enjoyed yourselves & apologies that the bar ran dry towards the end of the day - we got through about 50% more than usual, plus Frankie-5-A-Day ran out of juice & smoothies, but it STILL wasn't enough!

Thanks, as always, to Lloyd & Matt from the Brookmans who came along to man our bar for the afternoon - very much appreciated!

And thank you to everyone who helped, with their time, donations &  money, to bring it all together on the day. We will post some photos in due course.

Helen

The school is still holding onto some lost property from Village Day, including numerous hats & a toddler's left Next sandal! If you lost anything at Village Day please pop into school as soon as you can because the items will be disposed of if not claimed in the next few days.

Thank you!
