Is this email a scam
« on: March 04, 2014, 12:32:36 pm »
I just received this email.  Never seen anything like this before - is it a scam?

Any ideas.

Yep just answered my own question.  Hovered over the email it came from and it is an aol.com account.

There are just so many scams out there, on the phone, by letter, via email, computer malware, it is a jungle out there! Being aware of scams like this Mallow we can be one step ahead. Thanks for sharing. Who know what would happen if you had followed that link. BBC's The One Show tonight had an article on fraud where elderly people were being conned into giving their credit card details over the phone. Sadly as one gang is arrested, others take their place. It's a global problem.

If anyone is victim of a fraud or attempted fraud it is worth reporting it http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/home

Most such scam mails are easy to spot.

This one has obviously awkward wording and the link evidently points to a URL nothing to do with BT or Yahoo

Always be careful - as a general rule NEVER click a link from an email unless you trust the source, and even then be careful in case a scam email is spoofing the sender name.

Another scam that seems to be rising as taken from to from todays Daily Mail: http://www.my-rss.co.uk/feeditem.php?feed=0&word=&search=&item=382221 The more people that are aware of this latest ploy, the less successful these fraudsters will be. As always it is generally the elderly or vulnerable who can least afford such fraud as those who are most likely to fall victim.
