Jumble Sale, North Mymms Youth & Community Centre
« on: August 21, 2013, 09:06:16 am »
Another chance for sorting out your house and de-clutter. Alternatively a chance to acquire a bargain, or just help your local Community Centre.

Jumble Sale, Saturday 7th September 10am - 12 Noon at the North Mymms Youth & Community Centre. Admission 50p.

The Centre will be open to receive your goods, (sorry they cannot collect) on Wednesday 4th & Thursday 5th September 2-4pm and 7-9pm and Friday 6th September 1-5pm. (Please - no jumble to be brought for sale on the day).

The Centre is always grateful for more volunteers to help with sorting the jumble on the days prior to the sale as above, or helping to sell goods on the day. Please come along and volunteer!

All proceeds go towards the upkeep of the Centre, (Registered Charity number 275285)

Thanks BrookyP, I've just spoken to the husband of the person who should have been there, she got delayed and you probably missed her by minutes. Thanks a lot for your donations.

A bit unfortunate that the Centre had to rely on one person, but to say we need more voluteers is a bit of an understatement!

There are lots of items donated, so it looks like it will be a great sale tomorrow. All are welcome, especially volunteers! The Centre is a charity and relies totally on volunteers. Many, including the lady who should have been there at 1pm have served the Centre already for many, many years and I am sure would welcome new volunteers.

Hi Ferdie

can I make a suggestion? It would help me, and maybe more of the mums, if the centre could be open in the mornings. I would have volunteered, but the times didn't really fit with me leaving to collect children at 3. Mornings, I could have gone and volunteered after the school drop off till lunchtime. I did volunteer last year, but could only help post-collect from school and they wouldn't allow me to bring the kids.

I think Willowbrook Nursery may be using the centre in the mornings, which may be why they were only able to accept donations in the afternoon.

Thanks for the offer mannyd and sorry to hear they were unable to accommodate you. Unfortunately, The Centre has had 'difficulties' with unsupervised children in the past - without going into specifics these were of a serious nature. But on a more practical level there is no safe area for them whilst the jumble is being sorted. Yes, the Willowbrook Nursery do use the Centre in the mornings, but The Centre does try to run the Jumble Sales out of term times so items can be laid out in the Centre. The times of sorting are something the volunteers on the Management Committee decide as it is their time. I will make sure the Members know of your feedback and the other Poster on this thread -  Peter Hastings is the Chairman of the Committee, so he'll no doubt read this too. I personally now have very little to do with the Centre due to other commitments.

Of course the Committee would welcome additional help with The Jumble Sale and other fund raising events, so maybe 'extra sorting shifts' can be arranged next time, if they have more volunteers!  ;D
