Police Helicopter
« on: June 29, 2004, 12:49:02 pm »
Anyone have any idea what the helicopter (presumably police) was doing last night, hovering over the village at about 10:15 ??

It must have spent nearly 20 minutes almost over my garden with a searchlight on at one point.

I saw it too, I thought they'd finally caught up with me...

No idea what it was doing though - searchlight looked to be aiming over the railway bridge somewhere.

Perhaps it is their new way of looking for 4x4's parked on the pavement?  ;) Can't think it could possibly be looking for murderers, rapists or robbers!!!!!

According to police, the helicopter was hovering over the railway line following an attempted handbag snatch on a train. The would-be thief was prevented from taking the bag by two passengers. Police say the offender ran off down the line, which is why the helicopter was called in to search the area.

not only do police helicopters have "searchlights" as mentioned by sasquartch, but even better they have a superb infra red system that picks up body heat

this device has paid off so many times I can tell you

Officers pursuing suspects over garden fences and through gardens/ alleys will lose the suspect in undergrowth - a nearby shed etc

The officers could even run on past where the suspect has "gone to ground"
This has happened many times  :o

However the police helicopter will relay to the officers by radio "Suspect is in a shed, go back to the fence that you climbed over 50 yards south ..... now turn right walk 5 yards - you will see a red shed" B I N G O  ;D
