Welham Green post office robbery
« on: June 15, 2004, 04:39:01 pm »
Police have just mailed this site with a warning to shops and businesses not to leave rear doors and windows open during the hot weather. It follows a robbery at the Welham Green sub Post Office at about 2.30pm on Saturday.

Police say an offender entered via the rear door, which had been left open at the back of the shop. He approached a male shopworker from behind and ordered him to unlock the post office counter area.

The offender claimed he had a gun, but no weapon was seen. Once inside the counter area, the suspect took a quantity of cash and left the shop via the back door. There was no assault.

The suspect is described as a male with a big build, around 6ft tall. He was wearing a dark balaclava and dark clothes.

Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Dellsome Lane shops at the time of the robbery to come forward. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been around the back of the shops around that time.

Anyone with information should ring PC Ruth Dodsworth on 01707 638236, the Crime Desk on 01707 638102, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Further crime prevention advice can be gained by contacting the team on 01727 796020 or 01727 796021.

Wouldn't that have been when the fete was on at St Mary's School?  I presume that cuts down on the number of potential witnesses
