Anyone else having problems with their Freeview PVR Box?
« on: January 16, 2012, 05:19:54 pm »
I would like to know if anyone uses a Freeview PVR Box for viewing and recording digital tv and if they have experienced any issues such as the box changing channels itself or switching itself on and off.  We have this problem with a Humax Freeview PVR and are wondering whether the box is faulty or whether this is caused by proximity to the Brookmans Park transmission station.

amazing. I was going to post about this  :D

we have a humax PVR fox T2.

It went nuts the other night changing channels and was unusable.

basically do a factory reset and then rescan channels

I also reflashed it with the newest firmware as a belt and braces (see humax website)

here the copy of the email from humax re factory re set

Warning these instructions will wipe your Recording Schedule,

You will NOT lose your already Recorded Programmes

Press MENU
Select Settings and press OK
Select Installation and press OK
Enter your password (Default is 0000)
Select Factory Default and press OK
If you want to format your HDD (wipe recorded programmes) then tick the box and choose YES
Enter your password (Default is 0000)
Please allow the unit to reboot
Select your language and press OK
Make sure the screen ratio, display format and resolution is to your preferred setting and select NEXT and press OK
Let the channels search and save the results
Select Finish and press OK

failing that give humax sevice a call on 0844 669 8800

let me know how you get on...the channel rescan has left large gaps on the EPG (programme guide) so i reckon they have switched tranmitters/frequencies etc and humax need to update their units to accommodate....

personally I prefferred life with 4 channels on analogue-life was far simpler... :-\

I have changed the one word title of this thread to a title that better explains the reason for the post.
The Brookmans Park Newsletter has been supporting the village and our local community since 1998 by providing free, interactive tools for all to use.

I have an old Humax 9200T PVR and generally it works well with no problems recently.

However, over time, the file system seems to get corrupted and programs appear twice in the recorded program list or something else gets recorded.

A neighbour had problems with his 9300T which is a newer model (not HD) and loading the latest firmware seemed to cure all the problems with an unresponsive remote control.

It seems that an occasional reset to factory settings along with keeping the firmware up to date cures most problems.

Very unlikely to have anything to do with the transmitting station, most of the signal strength from there is AM around the 1MHz frequency, UHF TV is in the 300MHz range.

Thanks to you both for your comments and advice.  We have the Humax Fox T2.  I have done a factory reset and have checked the firmware, it's the latest version.  The problem of it skipping through the channels still persists. However, it seems to be recording OK and playback is fine.   I have emailed Humax and am now awaiting their response.
