Forum maintenance, sections, quotes and topic headlines
« on: November 25, 2011, 02:23:42 am »
Hi all,

I have had to make quite a few changes overnight to posts where:

  • quote boxes were used incorrectly leading to confusing text
  • topics were started in the wrong section
  • topics were began discussing an issue already under discussion in an existing thread
  • topics headings were too short to describe the issue being raised

If you have any questions or issues with these edits, please don't discuss them in the threads concerned - that will only distract from the original discussion. Instead you can discuss them here.

Thanks

David

As there are quite a few threads solely about the forum, could there be an introductory board "About the forum"?

There is already the forum agreement and editorial guidelines which are in effect the introductory board and can be referred to at any time and all users should be following them, http://www.brookmans.com/agreement.shtml & http://www.brookmans.com/guidelines.shtml

Unfortunately, these posts have been necessary as users are not following them. These links are at the bottom of the main Newsletter Home Page. Perhaps, making this more prominant may help, but users still need to be reminded via the forum as there have been mistakes and abuse. In theory all users have read and agreed to the terms of the agreement when they sign up, but like most 'small print' I bet most haven't read them!!  ;) 'Gentle reminders' are therefore necessary!

A main board could be helpful in guiding people to the agreements and guidelines

It could also be a useful area where people could post suggestions for updates to the forum, comments or any other related issue.

Many other major forums have them

Good idea. I have set up a new forum category and moved this topic over.  I have also copied the forum agreement and guidelines into that category and made them sticky, which means they will stay at the top for reference.
