Well, we've had a busy few months since my last post & things are hotting up for Village Day 2011! We are getting some fantastic auction & raffle prizes which we will share with you once they've been finalised and we have a number of new stalls & attractions this year including Go Karts, Pony Rides & a Bungee Run.

In addition to all the traditional favourites, this year we also have our 'Marketplace' stalls - somewhere you can go for a bit of retail or beauty therapy, with everything from children's books & Father's Day gifts to silver imprint jewellery & shabby chic style homecrafts.

The other main focus is the World Record attempt that we are trying to set this year for the 'Largest Gathering of Nursery Rhyme Characters'. You may have seen our article on page 14 of this week's WH Times, along with a photo giving a sneak preview of how some of the children will be dressing.

We need AT LEAST 250 participants to even qualify and it is open to adults and children of all ages, whether at the school or not...so we need YOUR help to achieve this record!!

So what do you have to do?

1. Choose your costume from the following list: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=1rXMi8VbqIec8r4ckkWS63NdSh7uiX7C23nqkbdvbdYRaEaep-2G1OysozX1r&hl=en_GB&authkey=CLz-9OgK
(this is very important as Guinness World Records(TM) will only count those characters included on the list).

2. Make/buy/borrow/hire your costume.

3. Turn up at 1.15pm on Sat 18th June (or 12.45pm on the village green if you want to take part in the parade)

....IT'S THAT SIMPLE!!!!!!!  ;) ;) ;)

The link above is a bit of a mouthful but for anyone wanting to tell their friends & family about this the list can also be found on the PTA/Village Day page of our school webite, http://www.brookmanspark.herts.sch.uk/.

Thanks for taking the time to read this - we hope to see some of you on 18th June!

We can now reveal our auction & raffle prizes for this year's Village Day! We have an amazing array of prizes this year - thank you to all our sponsors - examples of auction items include 'meet & greet'  concert tickets for JLS, a room of your choice decorated by a professional decorator & our perennial Spurs hospitality day with Gary Mabbutt. Raffle prizes range from meals out to tickets for Paradise & Willows.

To view the full list, click on the following link (found on our school website):
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SIC4yO-Ge8qy4Y-FlwatA5Vlu94k9nFJADZJBEdpNvg/edit?pli=1&authkey=CKqb77kI#

The auction will take place at 2.45pm on the school field so come along & bid! However, if you are unable to make it on the day, email us at villagedaycommittee@gmail.com & we will see if we are able to bid on your behalf.

Additionally, we will be auctioning a handful of items over the next few weeks in an on-line auction - full details to follow shortly.

Thanks for looking!

If anyone is interested in the signed & framed print of the local area (auction list no.9) then it is on display in The Pain Relief Centre in the village. There are a choice of three - two (of Gobions) are displayed in The Pain Relief Centre's reception area & there is one of the Great Wood in a consultation room. They are each worth over £50. I will try to attach a photo of one here to give you an idea.

We will bring one along to Village Day but the winner is welcome to choose one of the others if they prefer. To see other work by the artist visit www.blinkart.com or visit his studio in Brookmans Park.

Thanks,

Helen

Hello again.

I mentioned a few days ago that we would be having an on-line auction for a few items. This can now be viewed below or on the school website . The list is for those items that are just so special or indeed specialised that instead of going straight into the raffle they deserve a bit of extra attention. If they attract no bids they will go back into the raffle (tickets can be bought on the day & winners will be contacted the following week).

If you fancy bidding, just follow the instructions in the attached page. It's very easy and anyone can bid, not just those connected to the school!

Thanks again for taking the time to read this.  ;)

Thought I'd attached a link to the school website - I'll try again...

If it doesn't work, the original document is attached to the post above anyway.

Feeling the need for speed? Think your child could be a future Formula 1 ace?

Rye House Kart Raceway, where Lewis Hamilton learnt his craft, has given us two trial sessions to auction! They are each worth £31 & are suitable for children from five to sixteen years old to experience karting for themselves. The kart and all the safety equipment are provided so all you need to do is turn up and set the track alight.

We intend to auction the two sessions as one iterm so come along to Village Day if you want to bid! However, if you can't get there on the 18th June IM me & we may be able to bid for an item on your behalf.

There are a few other changes to the auction & raffle list so we will be posting an updated one once all the items have been finalised.

Thanks,

Helen

Hi again.

If any residents have old crockery or new-looking soft toys that they wish to get rid of & don't want to end up in a landfill then bring them along to the school!

In the run up to Village Day on Sat 18th June we are collecting these items in green wheelie bins inside the school grounds (the front gate will be open during school hours). Alternatively, if you can't make it to the school but wish to donate these items then IM me & I'm happy to collect.

Thank you!

Well, Village Day is almost upon us & I just wanted to tell you about some of the fabulous items we have this year!

You may recall that last year Bob Wilson & the Willow Foundation generously donated a limited edition print of Wembley Stadium during the 1966 World Cup, signed by none other than the 2 Knights of the Realm, Sir Geoff Hurst & Sir Bobby Charlton! Well, given the popularity of this item last year, Bob has donated the same print this year! Remember, this is a very rare item, not available from anywhere but the Willow Foundation. So if you missed out last year, come & have another go on Saturday!

Some of the other fantastic prizes include a flight over the local area in a Russian Yak 52 & a complete estate planning service (including wills, trusts etc) worth an estimated £1,500! This is in addition to prizes mentioned a while back such as a Spurs hospitality day with Gary Mabbutt & a ‘meet & greet’ with JLS. Gary has also kindly donated a fabulous signed ‘Spurs Legends’ print.

A few people have been interested in the go karting item & asked if we could open it up to adults. Well, I’m pleased to announce that we are now offering a ‘Zap & Ride’ voucher which is for children or adults & includes 30 mins of laser combat (like paintball but without the bruises!) followed by half an hour of karting!

Click on the attached link https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B0qptd4QJl9MNmY1MGIyYTEtZmJkOS00ZGNhLWJkNDctZWJkYjIxYjI4YzRm&hl=en_US&authkey=CKqvwtcM to view the list of auction & raffle prizes (raffle tickets are available on the day). The list is being added to all the time, so for any last minute changes that may not be included in the programme you'll receive on the gate, please go to the Information Tent for the final list. The auction will take place at 2.45pm & if you are unable to attend & would like us to bid on your behalf please IM me.

We’ve also been hearing great stories from people who are getting their costumes ready for our world record attempt. I myself spent a fun evening the other night making a string of sausages out of old pairs of tights! Roll on Saturday!!

Hi again, does anyone know how we could get hold of a wireless microphone for our PA system for Saturday? Preferably one that works against the backdrop of the Brookmans Park transmitters!

Thanks,

Helen

hi

http://www.radiofacilities.com/#/radio-mic-hire/4519693962

or

http://www.gbaudio.co.uk/dry.htm#RAD

for radio mic hire

never used the company (I work in sound ops) but this is what you need

go for the handheld if you are on multi user

head mic if single user

I can recommend

http://www.studiocare.com/store/hire.php

as i have dealt with them in the past

be sure to tell the hire co that you are near the transmitter-also get digital (most are now) not analogue system

I believe the record attempt was successful with 393 participants comfortably beating the previous record of 250.  ;D

Well, what can I say? What an amazing day! Seeing how much effort everyone had put into their costumes & how many people either took part or came to watch, all I can say is that I'm proud to live in Brookmans Park! We comfortably set the world record & hopefully had fun in so doing.

The committee would like to thank everyone for their support, both in the run-up to & on the day - we really can't do it without you! We hope you enjoyed your afternoon & managed to dodge the torrential downpours! We certainly enjoyed ourselves!

We believe we've raised a good amount for the school - money will continue to be counted in the coming weeks but in the meantime we do know that we raised nearly £6,000 on the auction alone.

We'll be putting some photos up soon in the gallery (& replacing the 2009 & 2010 ones after the hosting company went bust & we lost our page!) but in the meantime I'll dig out a couple & post onto this thread.

Thank you everyone!

Sorry folks, it doesn't seem to be working at the moment! David Brewer set up the album for me & is a wizz at these things so I'm sure it'll be up & running soon. I'll let you know when it is.

Thanks Dave!

The thanks goes to you for the hours of work it took to compress and upload the 360 images. I have posted about it on the site's Facebook page.

Thanks - it did take rather a while, especially as I had to relaod 2009 & 2010's pictures too after the host site I was using went bust! They are also now available to view in the Gallery.

And I love the new 'in-house' album feature (even if I did have to compress over 500 photos) - well done!

Well, it appears we've made it onto the official Guinness World Records site (although the amount raised is wrong - it was almost double that):

http://community.guinnessworldrecords.com/_Nursery-rhyme-characters-descend-on-UK-village-for-world-record-bid/blog/4666101/7691.html

The 2012 Guinness World Records book went to print 6 weeks ago but don't forget to check the 2013 book when it comes out at the end of next year in case Brookmans Park has made it into that one...!

Hi Sasquartch, we still haven't got a final FINAL figure because we are awaiting some donations from companies that kindly agreed to sponsor our stalls but I should think we've raised just over £12,000.

I was wondering how the money raised at the village day is spent.   Is it used solely by the primary school or are funds made available for other projects in the village.
