Important: Moderation, complaints and maintaining standards
« on: March 24, 2011, 04:05:22 pm »
Dear all,

There have been some strong feelings expressed in the thread about the recent RTA on Bluebridge Road, and a number of posts have been removed to the admin area for legal reasons and others edited.

The volunteer moderators do their best to try to ensure that false accusations or hurtful comments are not made, but we are not looking at the site 24x7 and can't be on top of comments as they are made.  The site's guidelines has more on our policy on editing posts.

We have always used the post-moderation (moderating after a post has been made) and reactive-moderation (moderating if we get a complaint or a prompt that we may have missed something) systems on this site as opposed to the pre-moderation (where posts do not go live until they have been vetted).  The pre-moderation approach would slow things down, but would be a safer way to ensure people are not hurt or that legally-dangerous comments are not made.

So, please bear with us. If comments are made that have caused upset and hurt, then I am sorry. We try our best to keep across every comment added.

If you see a post that you are uncomfortable with, please click on the 'report to moderator' link at the bottom of the post and the moderators will receive an email urging us to log on and deal with it.  Please report posts where you consider the author may be spamming, trolling, flaming or any comments that could be legally dangerous.

Thanks for your understanding and help.

David

A few threads have got fairly heated recently; nothing wrong with that, it's good to have robust debate. But please don't end a reply with an insult. It only leads to ill feeling and usually an equally aggressive response - and that doesn't take the debate any further. In fact it usually kills reasonable debate.  It's also viewed as trolling, which is banned on this forum.

So could those few forum members who have done this in the past please avoid using terms such as "you do not know what you are talking about" or other such payoff lines.

Thanks for your understanding.
