Forum - getting logged off
« on: February 15, 2011, 03:55:02 pm »
I always choose to stay logged on 'forever' but just lately I've found that I have to keep logging on again.  I haven't deleted cookies for a while so don't understand why it happens.  I'm using firefox as my browser.  Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem as you Angel, but I don't know why  :-\

This started last week for me and, bizarrely, it also affects my email. When I log onto the brookmans.com site, I then cannot send any emails (but I can still receive them).

Must ask James if he's done anything different with the site recently - James?

I am not sure a problem with the forum will be affecting your ability to send emails, but I have written to James asking him to take a look. I can't think of anything that has changed with the forum in recent weeks.

More on this...

The error logs on the site today show more than 80 attempts made to log in with incorrect passwords. The IP addresses of many are of known spammers. The attempts seem to be made almost every eight to 10 minutes.  Not sure if that is the problem, but it might be part of the problem.

Nothing I've done Guv'nor. Could I ask Chicken Legs and Mermaid to say what browsers they are using to access the site and I'll do some digging...

Thanks

This is wierd, I've noticed this too. Being logged on 'forever' when I first open the website, the 'new' forum items are highlighted but as soon as I go on to the forum I am a 'guest' & have to log on.

The same has just happened to me, so maybe you can find it in your log. I am on firefox 3.6.13. Not a password problem at my end - I have the correct one saved at my end.

Perhaps the answer is to close the forum until it can be fixed. I will try to contact James to discuss.

Please don't close the forum because of this trivial irritation! I only mentioned it because others had  ::)

I would be grateful if anyone else is having this problem could post a note here, along with their operating system and internet browser, or send me an instant message.

I would also be glad to have this informaiton from anyone who is not having this problem so I can try and establish a pattern. Using Safari and a mac, I am not having any problems at all, so am mightly confused at the moment...

The "forever" setting clearly doesn't work!

I am having this problem too - have noticed it this week at work.

I am running IE7.0.5730.13 on XP Pro.

Not sure if I am getting same problem at home. I will check.

I had initially assumed it was something to do with my work network as my PC is heavily locked down - however it seems not as others are experiencing similar issues.

Further to my post above, it's just happened to me again.

Started at the home page, it told me which subjects has posts which were new to me.

Clicked on a couple, and the site had ceased to know who I was. I had to log in if I wanted to post a reply.

(Experimentally went back to the home page, and no longer were any threads indicated with new postings.)

I don't seem to have any trouble and I have a look most days but don't post much.
I use mozilla firefox and have microsoft vista (is that the sort of thing you need to know - I'm not the worlds best at this computer business!)
Hope you managed to get it sorted for the others :)

I logged in 'forever' this morning, popped into Potters Bar (leaving computer on but asleep), when I got back I had been logged out again.

I know this may sound trivial - after all, how difficult is it to keep logging in - but it is irritating when the option selected says one thing but does another  ???

I do not appear to be having a problem at all.   Running XP at home and, I think, XP at work.

Cheers

Mary

Thanks, James.  It does seem petty to complain about it, but one doesn't know when reading the messages that you are not logged in.  Then when you do log in, you have to go into each message again to mark it as read.

On a slightly different note, has anybody experienced connection issues?

Since last Wednesday my broadband connection keeps dropping out, and when it is working the speed
is so slow I could boil an egg while waiting for a page to load.

My provider AOL and BT have run tests and have agreed there is a line fault ( my telephone connection has some static noise ) but I would be interested to know if its the Potters Bar exchange undergoing some maintenance problems, and Im not the only user in area yo experience this

Yours Sloooowly

Colin

I am getting 2918 download and 763 upload.

Regarding the logging off issue. Let me try something. I will reset ALL users to the SMF default template (that nice blue one).

For those having this problem please let me know if this makes any difference.

Will do it now (10:49)

Okay, I have just forced everyone over to the SMF default theme (I was just wondering whether any of the downloadable themes might have flaws).

Would be interested to see if that makes any difference.
